What did you love to do when you were a kid?

There are two questions I love to ask people:

  1. What did you love to do when you were a kid?
  2. If you could be a kid again for one day, what would you most want to do?

Here are my answers.  If you have a moment, I would love to hear yours!

1. I grew up in Phoenix, and my most favorite thing to do was to spend the day at Big Surf.  Big Surf is a water park complete with a giant wave pool, water slides, sandy beaches, and palm trees.  The best part was the wave pool, which generated a wave every five minutes or so.  At any given time there were approximately three thousand kids in the wave pool, and as soon as we saw a wave coming we would jump on our rafts and paddle like mad in an attempt to catch it and ride it to the “beach.”  Hours later, lying in bed at night, I could still feel the rolling of the water underneath me.

2.  If I could be a kid again for one day I would go to Big Surf, of course!  And I would have a slumber party with my friends, complete with pepperoni pizza, potato chips and onion dip, ice cream, and M&Ms.  I would probably still be afraid to go to sleep in case someone stuck my hand in a bowl of warm water.

  1. Now you’ve got me thinking. One of my favorite things to do as a kid was play catch in the street with my best friend Rick. Complete with a hard ball and our mitts we could put together a nine inning game with just the two of us. We would also catch fireflies in a jar with a piece of wax paper rubber banded over the top. We would put them by our beds as we fell asleep. Then our parents would release them outside so that they could go back to their own families to sleep.

    • Thanks for sharing, Judy! That makes me smile, as it almost always does when I hear these stories. I never caught a firefly when I was a kid – I wonder if we have them in Phoenix or if they all skipped town to go someplace cooler? I always thought they seemed magical, though. I could see why you would want to keep them!

      • Gosh, some of my favorite memories were also Big Surf and slumber parties…. Oh wait! That was with you! Sure love those memories with friends!…and by the way, it was not me who put your hand in warm water!
